Study on Implementation of Lean Six Sigma in Hospital Auxiliary Ship Block Construction Process

During the pandemic, transportation is needed to support evacuation of patients through waterways; therefore, PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) has created a Hospital Auxiliary Ship project. In building quality ship project, productivity so project can be completed properly. However, there are problems with punctuality completing block construction total lead time 19200 minutes and found not up standards like Surface Porosity, Former Stopper, Arc Strike, Low Bead defects that require rework process cause long cycle times. This study aims reduce value minimize waste or activities value-added using lean six sigma method stages (DMAIC). From results study, it was identification Process Activity Mapping (PAM) design, which resulted in highest rating, namely 16.94% defect, CTQ-4, 3.055 DPMO 59917 included excellent category for industry average. The factors causing problem were identified Pareto diagrams causal determine dominant type defect causes wastage defects; four factors, material, human, machine, environment. Recommendations improvement material inspection, operator training, reworking defective blocks, minimizing non-value-added activities. With design activity mapping stream mapping, efficiency increase from 67.81% 74.06%.
